The Kajka Park – was established in the 1930s on a fairly marshy site with a stream called “Psia Struga” (“Dog’s Stream”). The park was called the “Rose Garden” before the war and was part of a youth hostel area. The hostel building was extensively rebuilt, but has survived to this day, commonly known as the “Pionierska Street Gate”.
The parkland is bisected by Pionierska Street. Before the war, the area was Elbląg’s newest and most scenic district, peppered with large and small houses, and featuring a stylish rose garden with fountains and a stream. Even now, the Pionierska neighbourhood remains one of the most handsome spots of contemporary Elblag.
