The church in Ukta is a former Evangelical congregation. Today it is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Constructed between 1860 and 1864 (consecrated 4 September 1864), its design is attributed to Johann Groß, with August Stüler also mentioned in literature as an inspiration or consultant. The style is pure-brick neo-Gothic with a polygonal chancel.
Following WWII, the temple was converted into a Catholic church: effectively taken over in 1981, purchased from the Evangelical parish in 1983, and canonically established as a Roman Catholic parish in 1984.
A unique feature of the interior is the 16th-century painting “The Lamentation of Christ”, attributed to Girolamo Muziano (143×113 cm). Sources indicate that it was placed here on deposit from a Berlin museum for the church’s consecration – a rare find of this calibre in the Mazury region.
The front is a simple facade with a rosette. The interior features a preserved matroneum (galleries) and a choir loft with an organ above the entrance. Just behind the church stands a wooden belfry with two bells dating back to 1846 (now electrically operated). The entire complex is surrounded by a low stone wall.
