The Żywkowo area was originally home to the village of Seweke, destroyed during the Polish-Teutonic wars.
Later mentions date back to 1785. The village population numbered 44 around 1821, and by 1928 it had grown to 54. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the displaced German inhabitants were replaced by Ukrainians forcibly resettled under Operation Vistula, whose descendants live in Żywkowo to this day. Żywkowo village became famous for the largest single-village population of the white stork – during the breeding season, about 45 pairs of the birds arrive in the village, with 150-200 storks migrating south afterwards.
