Adam Błaszczok’s exceptionally well-produced documentary debut, based on a script by Andrzej Wojnach.

At its core, it is an extraordinary, highly relevant work and an important remembrance of the Mazurs, especially those who held on to their Polish identity. The filmmakers managed to cross the thin line between a reportage and a documentary, emerging in the realm of the latter.

The story, which forms a logical and coherent whole, is engaging, emotionally resonant, thought- and question-provoking… Through the use of contrast, the languid camerawork infuses the complex story of the Leyks with a narrative calmness. The film is complemented by the score.

In the movie’s moving and real ending, Wiktor Marek Leyk speaks to the late Father over the latter’s grave. In the opinion of the Warmia-Mazury Film Fund’s Inspection Committee, the movie’s co-producer, it is an art film that forces the viewer to engage with the dramatic history of the Mazurs spurned by Poland, the very country they loved.
