Another important documentary by Maciej Miller, after Opowiedz mi o mnie (Tell Me My Story), is a work of cinema in the fullest sense of the word. The narrative is superbly handled, presenting a touching story of extraordinary devotion of a son to his dying mother. A portrait of a loving son, who happens to be completely aimless in his own life, becomes a masterclass in emotion. Another close relationship presented in the film is that between the young protagonist of the film and Uncle Leszek, who serves as a guide and a mentor.
The film stands out in many regards, the first and foremost being the novel combination of the documentary format with animation, bringing the story even closer to the viewer. Its strengths also lie in the cinematography, the score and the editing. Last but not least, the wonderful ending… so important to the young generation that requires attention, while also all the more relevant due to its theme – that of learning at every stage of life….
