Ukta – a picturesque Mazurian village on the Krutynia River – 19th century

Ukta is one of the better-known Mazurian villages, recognized as a prime location for kayaking excursions. Its origins date back to 1734, when a Prussian glassworks was established here. The village was named Ukta by Philipians (a community of Old Believers  who opposed the reforms of the Orthodox Church), who settled here in 1832. Today, it falls within the limits of the Pisz Poviat, near Ruciane-Nida.

Facilities include a riverside hostel, a pub housed in an old smithy, a restaurant in the market square, a post office, a pharmacy, shops, holiday lodges, and a primary school.
