The pyramid was most likely erected in 1811 to serve as a family tomb for the Prussian von Farenheid baronial family.
Its shape recalls the Egyptian pyramids, with the inner vaulting inclined at 51°52′, exactly as its Egyptian counterparts. The structure was built with fieldstone on a square plan with the dimensions:
height: 15.9 m
base side: 10.4 m
Renovated in 2018 with the support of the Czerwony Dwór Forest Inspectorate, the structure is an increasingly popular attraction on the route between Węgorzewo and Gołdap.
Baron von Farenheid was an avid art collector and a lover of ancient Egypt. To this day, however, it is not known who he commissioned to build the pyramid.
