The Monument of the Liberation of Warmia and Mazury was unveiled in 1954.
Originally, the statue bore the name of the Monument of Gratitude to the Red Army. It consists of two 13-metre, granite pylons, which were to symbolise an unclosed triumphal arch set on a raised foundation. On the left pylon there are carved bas-reliefs depicting World War II battle imagery and scenes of farmers and industrial labourers at work. The right pylon features a 7-metre-tall figure of a Soviet soldier, with his hand held high and holding a standard, the other hand is held low and clenched into a fist.
