Olsztyn – 14th-century Church of St. James

St. James’ Church was built in the 14th century. It is a Gothic edifice with a 70-metre tower.

The church’s interior was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Some historic interior features from the Medieval, Renaissance and Gothic periods have survived within, including: a Gothic wall tabernacle and a late-Gothic triptych, a Renaissance Holy Cross triptych and Baroque sculptures of the apostles. The cathedral’s main entrance doors depict scenes of the life and apostolic works of the Holy Father John Paul II. The doors serve as a monument to the pontificate of the Polish Pope.
