Lidzbark Warmiński – 14th-century castle of the Warmian bishops

The 14th-century bishop’s castle in Lidzbark Warmiński is one of the most treasured Polish monuments of Gothic architecture.

In 2018 it was officially declared a historic monument. The castle was built of red brick on stone foundations. The castle complex consisted of the castle proper and two outer baileys to the north and south. The structure as a whole draws from the classic Teutonic Knights’ concept of a typical conventual castle. The high castle was a four-wing building, square in plan.
