Kiepojcie – bridges and viaducts, 1st half of the 20th century

Bridges over the Bludzia River and railway viaducts on the former Gołdap-Żytkiejmy railway line (completed 1927).

The three-span bridges are 15 meters high and 50 meters long. The first one, which carried the tracks, was built with reinforced concrete and brick.  The second, reserve viaduct was made with reinforced concrete only.

This concept of twin-bridge construction was probably inspired by the structures then built in western Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland. If one bridge was to be destroyed, a second track could be quickly laid on the existing ballast.
