A unique World War I veteran’s cottage.
In recognition of their merits, the soldiers were granted a farm with a building that served a threefold function – a residential building, a cattle shed, and a barn upper section.
All huts were built to the same design. At that time, many Prussian officers held estates in East Prussia. They aimed to ensure that their soldiers resided nearby after returning from the front.
The most distinguished soldiers received farms with livestock. The Galwiecie estate encompassed about 15 such veterans’ residences. Only a few of the original ones have survived.
