Former “Zamech” workshop (originally first half of the 20th century)

The now-defunct “Zamech” Mechanical Works Company, established under the name of General K. Świerczewski, operated in Elblag from 1948 to 1990, manufacturing steam turbines, transmission gears, marine equipment, and metal processing machinery. Today, its former site has been taken over by other companies of a similar profile. It was ZAMECH that created the famous culverins featured in Jerzy Hoffman’s historical epic movie The Deluge (Potop).

At its peak, in the second half of the 1970s, the company employed about 8,500 workers and was the largest employer in the city, region and voivodeship of Elbląg.
