Kętrzyn – record-size stable

Categories: 18th-19th century architecture / Secular sites

The complex of the former royal Trakehner horse stud farm, built in 1877, is the site of the second largest stable in Europe.

The stable is 150 m long and contains 150 horse stalls. The elongated building and the rest of the historical complex are used by the Kętrzyn Stado Ogierów (“Stud of Stallions”) stud farm, which specialises in breeding massive draught stallions. Stado Ogierów provides a tourist attraction in the form of carriage rides reaching as far as Święta Lipka and Gierłoż.
