The film tells the story of the Elbląg Canal’s designer and builder – Georg Jacob Steenke, a resident of Elbląg. “The world-class originality and uniqueness of the Elbląg Canal is showcased in this interestingly-structured film, combining features of a documentary with dramatic reconstruction – a story sure to raise interest in this extraordinary tourist attraction.”,said the Inspection Committee of the Warmia-Masuria Film Fund while assessing the project. The commission also noted the solid camerawork, editing and sound design, as well as the cleverly realized juxtaposition of two worlds: the contemporary narrator with the historical figure of Georg Jacob Steenke.
Actors from the Aleksander Sewruk Theatre in Elbląg join the film’s cast, with production supported also by the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Elbląg.
