Orneta – 15th-century Gothic church

The Church in Orneta, under the invocation of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, is a monument of religious architecture erected in the 15th century.

It is an oriented, three-nave Gothic edifice built in brick, with four bays and a basilica layout, without a separated chancel or an organ gallery. Adjoining the sides are two large, square chapels. To the east and west, the outer walls are articulated by buttresses with smaller embedded chapels forming a third and fourth aisle. The interior of the church has lierne vaulting. Interspersed throughout the building are surviving Gothic wall paintings.
